The co-creator of Dogecoin, Billy Markus, recently revealed why he doesn’t like dog-inspired cryptocurrency Shiba Inu. Markus called out SHIB’s community in a series of tweets.
Dogecoin Creator Comes Under Fire From Shiba Inu CommunityBy now, we definitely know that Crypto Twitter can be both a great uniter and a great divider. There’s no better example of the latter than, of course, the intense rivalry between the Dogecoin and Shiba Inu communities as the two meme coins go head-to-head to get the 10th position among the top cryptocurrencies by market cap.
On Friday, Billy Markus — who tweets under the Shibetoshi Nakamoto handle in a nod to pseudonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto — posted a tweet containing a phone screen recording of a comment section that entailed a slew of links connected to sham projects bearing an almost similar name but have no direct relation to the real SHIB coin. The Dogecoin creator addressed his message to Twitter’s Jack Dorsey, urging him to do something about the growing number of people advertising their scams on his threads.
The tweet wasn’t well-received, however. It garnered a considerable amount of criticism from SHIB fans who argued that Markus was trying to paint a terrible picture of the SHIBArmy. This prompted him to go on a rant about Shiba Inu and the community surrounding it.
Markus Flustered By The Harassment And Insults By The SHIB CommunityMarkus is among the most influential people in the industry, being the co-founder of the original meme-inspired joke cryptocurrency endorsed by Tesla chief Elon Musk. With this kind of attention, there’s bound to be criticism.
In response to the SHIB community’s latest outrage, Markus noted he doesn’t care which cryptocurrency users buy or sell, be it Dogecoin or Ethereum, as it does not mean anything to him. The only thing he cares about is how they conduct themselves.
The software engineer went ahead to explain that he hates Shiba Inu because the coin’s community “goes out of their way to harass me and insult me”.
“That doesn’t make me think well of you or your “community”. It’s not rocket science. Don’t be an asshole, and I won’t care. Be an asshole, I won’t like you or your community,” Markus added.
He clarified that the same goes for the Dogecoin community, meaning he likes the community less when even just one member is being a troll. Notably, he has no responsibility for DOGE at the moment but he hopes its community can be “a mildly okay one” in this absurd crypto space.
