Virtual Land Sold For a Record $215,000 on Decentraland
A virtual piece of land on the Decentraland blockchain-based virtual reality platform has been sold for a whopping $215,200. This is according to a tweet by DCLBlogger which also noted that this sale was the platform’s record high.
Precisely, the anonymous buyer acquired a 126-piece land at 2,772,000 MANA (the native token of Decentraland), which is equivalent to $215,204 at the prevailing exchange rates. The transaction was conducted over the platform. The platform has a trading area that enables users carry out transactions involving land parcels using the MANA token.
The Decentraland virtual reality platform is made of several pixels, each of which represents a 100 square matters of land in virtual reality. Essentially, the land parcels are tradable non-fungible tokens built on Ethereum smart contracts. This means that the land parcels can be utilized for a variety of purposes, including the development of VR games, business, holiday destinations and many more. To access the virtual world, users need their web browser of a VR headset.
As previously reported on Sludgefeed, another user had bought a 40-piece land using 1.3 million MANA which was equivalent to $95,000. As of now, a single MANA token goes for $0.077. The AltDex 100 Index ranks the cryptocurrency at 65th.
