Cyber attacks, though highly publicized in the crypto sector, can impact any company with digital operations, which is exactly the predicament that Altran Technologies found themselves in. Altran, a French engineering consultancy, became the target of attackers, inhibiting their operations in several countries simultaneously.
The attack was announced by the company today, though they assured consumers that a recovery plan was already being worked on. While this recovery is underway, the company shut down the IT network and applications to protect it in the process.
In their announcement, Altran stated:
“We have mobilized leading global third-party technical experts and forensics, and the investigation we have conducted with them has not identified any stolen data nor instances of propagation of the incident to our clients.”
Those clients presently include Engie, Iridium, Ocado, and Network Rail.
The government constantly warns private businesses that they have to increase their security measures on digital platforms, due to the cyber attacks that can infiltrate them. They have even made it clear that these attacks can come from a multitude of sources, from criminals that want financial gain to foreign governments.
One example of this type of hacking comes from the National Cyber Security Centre in Britain, who announced an investigation presently in effect for a Domain Name System (DNS) hijacking campaign. This campaign, which the Centre announced on Friday, recently hit both government and commercial organizations around the globe. Another example is Nyrstar, a metals producer that was attacked on Tuesday. To prevent the attack from spreading, the company chose to shut down a portion of their IT functions.
As of now, no information has been provided as to why Altran was attacked, nor what the attackers actually stole. Lately, there has been an increase in hacks of not only exchanges but of companies throughout all industries. And many of these are being linked to a set of hackers that steal customer information and sell it on the dark web. Two groups specifically stand out that Chainalysis un-covered earlier today.
One thing is certain, companies will need to step up their cybersecurity to stop infiltration from becoming an everyday news piece.
