In a bid to appeal to more cryptocurrency investors, hardware wallet provider Ledger announced its new offering — Ledger Live. CEO Eric Larcheveque announced the new software in a blog post, stating that the company’s mission is to:
“Ensure that everyone who owns crypto assets can keep them safe, using the most advanced security technology available. That means creating products that are both powerful and simple to use.”
What Is Ledger Live? The software is an all-in-one companion application for people using a Ledger device. The app is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Larcheveque writes:
“We’ve built Ledger Live from the ground-up to deliver a feature-packed, yet user-friendly experience for both power users and newbies. Ledger Live brings together device management and individual crypto assets in one place, replacing the old system of multiple Chrome-based applications.”
The app comes with several features. Users can now import data from their Ledger devices into the app in a few clicks. It supports multiple accounts, so users don’t have to switch consistently between different apps for each cryptocurrency. The app will also show real-time balances, helping users monitor their accounts when their devices are disconnected.
Ledger Live also comes with security features. It provides on-screen guidance to the users with transaction confirmations to help ensure that people send money to the intended recipient only.
More to Come for the New Software ApplicationThe CEO suggested that the details of Ledger Live will be revealed in an upcoming blog series called “Feature Focus.” The first version of the app will not support ERC20 tokens. However, this feature could be added in future updates.
The application is available for free and provides support to users of Ledger Blue and the bestselling hardware wallet Ledger Nano S. The company states that “great hardware is nothing without great software.” Some more features for the products are under development and will be released in subsequent updates.
Ledger Live is an open-source project, and the company has urged the community to add their suggestions. The Ledger Live GitHub project is also open to developers who want to contribute to the project.
