Whenever a new idea or technology reaches a certain threshold of popularity, Hollywood is bound to make a movie out of it. Virtual reality has the Matrix trilogy, while the popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook eventually spawned “The Social Network.”
Appropriately titled “Crypto,” the movie based on cryptocurrencies is already on its postproduction stage with a release date slated for sometime in 2019. For crypto enthusiasts, here are some interesting details of the upcoming film, as revealed by producers Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman in an interview with Inverse.
Might Not Satisfy Die-hard Crypto EnthusiastsWhile the “Crypto” film will feature digital currencies and make them central to its plot, the producers warned that it may disappoint die-hard crypto enthusiasts. Probably it’s their way of saying that the film won’t get too technical and won’t discuss the intricacies of cryptocurrencies in great detail. In fact, Beckerman revealed that the movie wouldn’t even focus on a specific cryptocurrency. He told Inverse:
“It’s more broad than that. It doesn’t particularly focus on any particular coin.”
Beckerman notes that the film will involve corruption, crime, and cryptocurrency. But the message of the movie will overall be positive.
Producers Dabbled in Cryptos in Real LifeOne of the hallmarks of a good film is the degree of realism in the portrayal of its topic. It is no surprise then that as producers, Jordan Yale Levine and Jordan Beckerman admitted to dabbling in cryptocurrencies to immerse themselves with the subject matter.
However, both producers admit they are far from experts when it comes to cryptocurrency.
Yale Levine said:
“Both of us have dabbled. I don’t know if either of us would consider ourselves expert. It was really our writers who fleshed out the topic and dove into the research. They were the ones who really became experts to make sure the film was authentic.”
The Impressive Cast of “Crypto”Aside from tackling a very new subject, fans can always look forward to the acting performances of the film’s impressive lineup of actors. There’s Kurt Russell, who has starred in numerous films such as “Escape from L.A.” and “Stargate.”
The film will also star Emmy-winner Alexis Bledel, who is known for her work in “Gilmore Girls.” Australian actor Luke Hemsworth of the “Westworld” TV series and “Mad Men” actor Vincent Kartheiser are also confirmed to have roles in the upcoming movie.
