Forbes Moves Their Content to Blockchain by Civil

Matt Coolidge, the co-founder of Civil, wrote a blog post on Tuesday that was titled “Forbes x Civil: A Major Milestone for Blockchain-Based Journalism.”

In the post, they started with an announcement that is changing the entire blockchain game – a new partnership with Forbes, who is “officially joining” their network.

This makes Forbes the first major media organization to make the step towards posting content to blockchain, which will easily be noticed by the rest of the world’s publications. In the partnership, the first step is for Forbes to start archiving part of the current content onto the platform. While they make the transition, they will also “experiment with new methods of reader engagement.”

Even though they are one of the oldest and most popular resources for ethical journalism, anything that they post will be subjected to the guidelines laid out by the Civil Constitution. Part of the agreement states that Forbes will now hold CVL tokens as well.

Speaking on the decision to collaborate, Salah Zalatimo, who is the Senior Vice President of Product & Technology at Forbes, said

“We are relentlessly focused on rapid experimentation and implementation so that we can determine what’s in the best interest of our audience and what is next for our industry. Forbes and Civil believe passionately in the mission of journalism, and together we can provide audiences with a level of unprecedented transparency around our content. We’ll also be able to expand the reach of our writers and identify new revenue channels over time.”

Matthew Iles, the CEO of Civil, has echoed the positive outlook on this integration, noting the benefits that it offers to his own company. Iles said,

“Civil’s mission is to power sustainable journalism throughout the world, and Forbes’ commitment to regularly publish content on our platform is a major milestone for our approach. We look forward to working with Forbes as we connect with a broader audience interested in new, more direct ways to discover, share and support ethical journalism.”

As the transition occurs, the writers and editors for Forbes will be granted access to new blockchain publishing tools, which will become a part of the content management system. The metadata will include the identity of the author, information about sources, and other details.

The publishing of Forbes’ metadata to the blockchain will officially begin at the beginning of 2019. It will be logged with the Civil Registry with all of the other Newsrooms on the website. If all goes well with this partnership, the rest of the content from Forbes may be posted within the year.
