Over the last few years, the cryptocurrency industry made many attempts to increase adoption and push for regulation. Crypto representatives and officials of various projects met with all kinds of government officials, lawmakers, major traditional traders and investors, and many others, trying to educate them about crypto, explain how it all works, its potential, and more.

The most popular of these meetings was when TRON’s Justin Sun met Warren Buffett for lunch, trying to change his mind about crypto. Now, another major meeting happened, although this one was not publicly known until now, even though it happened way back in May.

This time, Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve Chairman, met with Brian Armstrong, the CEO of Coinbase. The meeting was revealed thanks to the central bank records, which show that the gathering took place nearly two months ago now, on May 11th. Interestingly, it is one of only two meetings during which Powell met with CEOs in the entire month of May.

The other meeting was with the head of JP Morgan, Jamie Dimon. However, this is not so surprising, given that JPMorgan Chase is the largest bank in the country.

Coinbase CEO meets up with politicians and agency heads

The meeting with Brian Armstrong also took place at an interesting time, as this was still before the prices crashed down. Cryptocurrencies are at their height, and the Fed was also in the middle of its research on CBDCs — the results of which are still not known to the public. However, the paper about it should be released at some point during this summer.

The two were not alone, either, as the former House Speaker, Paul Ryan, was also an attendee. Furthermore, the meeting comes as the last one in a long series of Armstrong’s gatherings with multiple political leaders from Washington. Armstrong commented at the time that all of the politicians and agency heads he met with were very thoughtful and committed individuals and that he was happy to form friendships and have their teams connected with Coinbase’s own.

1/ I spent most of this week in DC meeting with members of Congress and heads of various federal agencies, along with @RonConway @katie_haun and @iampaulgrewal.

While it is assumed that the reason for the gathering was to talk about cryptocurrencies, nothing other than Powell’s schedule was revealed as of yet. However, many view this as a positive thing, as it might mean that the Coinbase CEO has made an effort to educate these important individuals, who might have a say in formulating future laws regarding the digital currency industry.
