Brave Launches Brave 1.0 Browser that Provides Enhanced Security and Anonimity

Brave Software, a company co-founded by Mozilla CEO Brendan Eich, has announced the launch of its free open-source browser Brave 1.0. Brave is based on the Chromium web browser and blocks malware ads and website trackers, keeping users’ data safe and secure.

It offers the so-called Brave Rewards program that monitors users’ attention on sites they visit and rewards them with the corresponding amount of Basic Attention Token (BAT), based on the total support for each site. Initially, Brave was working with Bitcoin, but it turned out to be too expensive, that’s why BAT was chosen.

According to the press release, Brave 1.0 is faster and more secure. Among its unique features are Brave Rewards that allows users to send BAT tokens to creators as tips for great content and counts about 300,000 publishers, Brave Ads that allows visitors to opt-in to view relevant privacy-preserving ads in exchange for earning BAT, and Brave Shields that immediately blocks invasive third-party ads, trackers, and autoplay videos without a need to install any additional programs.

Besides, Brave 1.0 allows users to stay anonymous on the web using a private browsing mode.

Brendan Eich, Brave Software co-founder and CEO, said:

“Today’s Internet is broken, and users suffer the most. They are being tracked, tagged, and exploited; this not only violates privacy, but slows down page loads, drains batteries, and makes for a miserable experience. Meanwhile, publishers are losing revenue at a record pace due to a few gigantic super-companies and too many ad tech intermediaries. Advertisers are wasting time and money on an industry filled with fraud. Everyone with a legitimate stake in the open Web loses in this environment.”

“Brave 1.0 is the browser reimagined, transforming the Web to put users first with private, browser-based ads and payment platform. With Brave, the Web can be a rewarding experience for all, without users paying with their privacy,” added he,

With its features, Brave seems to leverage competition with other browsers in their efforts to handle ads and trackers. In many cases, in many cases, ad-blockers are limited or need to be enabled.

Eich stated:

“Everybody’s bothered by the sense of being tracked and bothered by bad ads. But I think ad aesthetics are not the problem. It’s the tracking and the cost of tracking which is multifarious. There’s page load time, running the radio to load the tracking scripts that load the other scripts that load the scripts that load the ads, that drains your battery, too.”

Users of Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS may already enjoy the new version in 52 languages.
