Block.one Hires Citibank Human Resources Managing Director as New CPO

EOSIO software publisher, Block.one, released a statement today, July 12th, announcing that Citibank Human Resources Managing Director James Mendes will serve as the company’s new Chief People Officer starting later this year. Mendes will also be appointed as the newest member of the Block.one Executive Committee, headed by Block.one Group President Rob Jesudason.

Mendes was quoted in today’s statement saying,

“Block.one’s innovation is laying the groundwork for mass adoption of scalable blockchain technologies. Our position as a global leader in blockchain software allows us to attract and develop the world’s best talent. I am excited to come on board and support the growth and development of the Group’s global operations.”

Mendes is currently stationed in Hong Kong and will continue to stay there during his tenure at Block.one. He is expected to help support the company’s growth by “managing the Group human resources function and designing and implementing [Block.one’s] culture and talent structures…”

Block.one Group President, Rob Jesudason, expressed his excitement for the 5th largest cryptocurrency’s latest hire:

“Attracting, developing and retaining the best people is critical to our continued success. James has a proven history of leading human capital businesses and extensive experience supporting financial services and technology companies to implement human resources solutions across the globe. We look forward to him joining the team.”

Mendes has an impressive resume, having worked in Europe, Asia and Africa as an advisor and partner with some of the world’s top brands. In addition to CitiBank, Mendes served as Managing Director, Asia, at both Korn Ferry and Alexander Mann Solutions. He was also a member of the Capital Consulting global board of directors.

Despite recent setbacks with Block.one’s EOS platform, the company still maintains a $6 billion market cap and has continued to expand its employee roster. This time last week, Block.one announced that they had hired former Jefferies Asia CEO, Michael Alexander to lead the $1 billion EOS Venture Capital Divison.
