After leaving Twitter, Jack Dorsey seems to be focusing all his attention on Block, which was previously known as Square. The two recent job postings by the company signal that it could unveil open-source mining systems and a hardware wallet for Bitcoin (BTC/USD) this year.

Block listed these two jobs on LinkedIn, a professional social media platform, where it noted that its plans were to unveil the “next generation of mining ASIC” and launch a hardware wallet to be used by 100 million Bitcoin users.

Block’s new job listings

The two jobs listed by Block will be headquartered in San Francisco. The two roles were added to LinkedIn during the past 24 hours. One of the roles posted was that of a custom digital design lead.

Under the role, the individual will work on “silicon validation of the ASIC and its prototype.” This position shows that Block is focusing on creating ASICs for Bitcoin mining. ASICs are believed to offer a high level of security to the Bitcoin network.

The second job posted by Block is that of a global fulfilment and logistics lead for the hardware wallet. The individual selected for this position will have the role of “bringing easy-to-use, reliable self-custody to a global audience.” The company also seeks to distribute its hardware wallets to more than 100 countries.

The announcement by Block has been a long way coming, given that in 2021, Dorsey had tweeted that the company,

Is considering building a Bitcoin mining system based on custom silicon and open source for individuals and businesses worldwide.

Dorsey and Bitcoin

Block is the parent company for Square, CashApp, Spiral and Tidal. Each of these subsidiaries is committed to boosting the adoption of Bitcoin and furthering the empowerment of the economy.

During his tenure as the CEO of Twitter, Dorsey was vocal about his support for Bitcoin, and this does not seem to be dying down despite his resignation from the social media company. At some point, Dorsey had stated that Bitcoin could promote “world peace.”

CashApp has received overwhelming support from Bitcoin users. It has also attracted the attention of NBA stars such as Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala, who have noted they will receive part of their salaries in Bitcoin.
