BitTorrent’s Past Growing Pains of Over 3,000 Lawsuits Could Hurt Tron’s (TRX) Future Plans?

It seems that more than 3,300 Lawsuits have been filed against BitTorrent users for copyright infringement. The information was released by The National Law Review and TorrentFreak. According to a report released by TorrentFreak, just in the first half of the year, there were filed more than 3,300 lawsuits.

Most of these cases are against John Doe, an individual that is suspected of downloading a piece of content from the BitTorrent platform without having the authorisation of the content creator.

Tron has recently purchased the BitTorrent platform after paying $126 million for it. Just a few weeks ago, Tron launched the so-called BitTorrent Token (BTT) using the Binance Launchpad. This has also been something controversial.

Some reports suggest that Binance and Tron pumped both the Binance Coin (BNB) and the Tron (TRX) virtual currencies and then dumped them. Additionally, a former BitTorrent official said that the Tron network will not be able to process such a large number of transactions as registered by the BitTorrent platform.

Jaliz Maldonado, from The National Law Review, commented:

“On the one side are lawyers suing on behalf of artists, creators, and media conglomerates. On the other are attorneys whose job it is to defend the vast swathes of the public who have downloaded copious amounts of content – music, movies, video games, computer applications, etc – without paying for it first.”

Although this is something not so positive for Tron and BitTorrent, TRON is not directly related to the cases. Indeed, the copyright infringements have not been filed against BitTorrent, but instead, against individuals using the protocol.

Nevertheless, Tron and BitTorrent will have to solve this situation. If users will not be safe using the platform, this could reduce the number of users in regions such as the United States. The country has copyright laws that are very strict. There are some companies such as Netflix that allow users to avoid using the BitTorrent platform.

In the past, a case overseen by District Judge Michael H. Simon, the court concluded that an IP address connection is not sufficient to allege an individual for copyright infringement. This, this could help these cases end in a positive way for Tron and BitTorrent. It is not possible to determine who is behind an IP address if it can be used by several individuals. In this case, plaintiffs will have to show that the user accused of infringing copyright performed this action.

The BitTorrent Token was sold by BItTorrent raising several millions of dollars in just a fewminutes. Although several crypto enthusiasts might be ready to use the digital currency on the BitTorrent platform, it might not be the best for users without crypto knowledge.

Now, it remains to be seen how the currency is going to perform and help BitTorrent offer better services for users.
