Bitcoin SV and its proponents have been in the news owing to its allegations against Bitcoin ABC and its proponents, Craig Wright and Calvin Ayre. In a recent interview, Craig ‘Faketoshi’ Wright spoke about his claims of being the real Satoshi Nakamoto, as well as the current state of the cryptocurrency community.
Wright was asked about the point of patenting the concept of Bitcoin,to which he replied,
“The copyright for a patent applies even after it is given for a pseudonym. You cannot take a patent without putting your real name and address.”
The Chief Scientist at nChain further touched upon why he used the pseudonym ‘Satoshi Nakamoto,’ if he really was the legendary creator of the world’s largest cryptocurrency. He claimed that a lot of people do not understand that Bitcoin is not an anonymous system and “will not make everything a cesspit.” Wright added,
“A lot of people did not like me, and they still don’t. I had polarized a lot of people and if they had found I was Satoshi that would have been a different set of problems. I had written a paper with Dave, which was blasted by a lot of the people in the community for being invalid and nowadays people just buy the concept like it always existed.”
The man more commonly known as Faketoshi, explained why he chose the famous pseudonym. Wright claimed that he drew the inspiration from Tomagato Nakamoto, an economist who, according to Wright, was touted as Japan’s Adam Smith. Wright then commented on the current state of the cryptocurrency market, stating that the industry is so small, that people should ask ‘who cares?’ In his words,
“If the people in the cryptocurrency space were black balls and everyone else were white balls in a sack, one would have to pick at least a 1000 balls before they get a black ball. That’s how nascent the industry is right now. I can compare the currency progress of the cryptocurrency industry to the progress of the internet in 1995 or 1996. We still have a lot of work to be done.”
