Bitcoin Cash’s [BCH] Roger Ver attacks Lightning Network; claims tech uses custodial ‘non-wallets’

2019-6-5 06:30

The BCH community’s hostility towards Bitcoin core’s scalability and the solution for the same, the much-hyped Lightning Network, is no secret. Many prominent enthusiasts of Bitcoin Cash have criticized the technology previously.

Roger Ver, the CEO of Bitcoin.com and a fork coin proponent, has never been shy about voicing his dissent with Bitcoin community members and the layer 2 payment protocol on top of Bitcoin blockchain. In a recent Twitter rant, “Bitcoin Jesus,” tagged Bitcoin proponents, Dr. Peter McCormack and Max Keiser and tweeted,

“The #LightningNetwork requires trust for 99.99% of users because they are using custodial non-wallets similar to PayPal. @PeterMcCormack @maxkeiser”

Ver’s tweet prompted an overwhelming response from the community. Some called the tweet a “blatant lie”, while a few others contended that perhaps Ver is “misinformed” about the happenings in the Lightning network. Following the tweet, Peter McCormack, the famous podcaster, defended the largest cryptocurrency and bashed Ver on his tweet,

“BCash requires trust for 99.99% of users because they are using a centralized shitcoin.”

The comment comes at a time when Lightning Network’s tech has witnessed growing adoption, even among low-profile crypto-based roll-outs. While the technology is still in its formative stages, LN is seen as a significant tool to boost Bitcoin’s scalability.
