After Tesla bought Bitcoin worth $1.5 billion a few days ago, the cryptocurrency community has been monitoring other big names in the mainstream sector. Amazon has been touted as one of the companies that will forever change the way society sees cryptocurrencies trading and crypto-based transactions.
Speculations have been built over the years, but it seems the company is gradually coming out to make a statement of intent.
Although Amazon still strongly remains committed to Fiat, the company is making move to experiment with digital currencies.
Launching a digital type projectIt is now preparing a launch of a “digital currency” type project in Mexico, based on the company’s recent job posting.
Although the project is yet to be announced, the job post suggests Amazon wants to offer lucrative Prime customers more payment options on its platform.
The new payment solution will involve “Digital and Emerging Payments (DEP),” as the company calls it during the job post.
“We are looking for a leader to help us launch a new payment product stating with Mexico as our initial launch country,” Amazon stated on its job listing.
The company added that the product will help customers use digital currencies by converting from cash. The currencies can be used to make purchases online and enjoy services such as Prime Video.
The project could be launched beyond MexicoThe type of digital asset remains speculation to the public because it was not specified on the job posting. But it’s unlikely that Amazon will use the widely known crypto assets such as Ethereum (ETH) or Bitcoin (BTC).
The job posting specifically mentioned that the ideal candidate should be conversant with native AWS technologies for the design of new systems.
Although the first job posting revealed that the project will be launched in Mexico, another job posting hinted that the new product will be available across several emerging markets.
The rumor about Amazon’s entry into the cryptocurrency market started in 2017 when the company bought three crypto-based domains – amazoncryptocurrencies.com, amazonethereum.com, and amazoncryptocurrency.com.
But the company has remained quiet about any significant entry into the market. Observers believe it’s only a matter of time before Amazon fully steps its feet into Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.
