zkSystems Research: dApps Hardly Get Many Users Compared To WhatsApp, Telegram

According to research conducted by zkSystems using data from stateofthedapps.com, the number of active users on dApps cannot match that of platforms such as Telegram and WhatsApp. According to the CEO of the company, Diana Rees, only 10% of all Ethereum-powered dApps have regular users and are continually used for financial transactions.

The research conducted by zkSystems involved 1812 Ethereum dApps, which are available on stateofthedapps.com. According to the brief, ERC20 transactions don’t usually take place on all of them, but only 180, which is roughly 10%.

Rees believes that the poor results provide a clear demonstration of the long journey dApps and blockchain adoption still have.

Generally, dApps are still less popular because of their poor adoption. This cuts across all major platforms supporting dApps, and not just Ethereum.

However, compared to dApps on other platforms, those built on Ethereum appear to perform poorly when it comes to the usage. DICE, which is operated by EOS, boast almost 500,000 financial transactions per day.

Moreover, almost every dApp in the DappRadar top-ten list with a huge amount of transactions run on the Tron network.

Compared to the number of users on major chat platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram, all these platforms perform poorly.

Although many people would expect dApps to perform much better, it’s important to note that they are still in their early days. Blockchain remains a new concept and adoption rate hasn’t picked, especially with the current bear market.

With time, though, dApps could record impressive numbers, perhaps matching those of major chat apps or more.
