BitTorrent and CoinPayments signed a new partnership that will allow the BitTorrent Token (BTT) to be supported by the cryptocurrency payment gateway CoinPayments. BitTorrent Token is the coin released by the Tron Foundation a few weeks ago and that would be used to improve the functionalities of the BitTorrent platform.
According to the information published in a press release, BitTorrent and CoinPayments were already collaborating together after announcing Tron (TRX), Bitcoin (BTC) and Binance Coin (BNB) support to pay for premium services.
Now, users can use the BTT token to pay for BitTorrent and uTorrent Pro subscriptions. That means that users will be able to pay their HD quality streaming and malware protection using BTT tokens.
Justin Sun, the founder of TRON and the CEO of BitTorrent explained that this payment is just a bid to make BitTorrent liquid in the online marketplace before it is integrated into the different products available.
Justin Sun commented about new implementations:
“Coming this summer, BitTorrent Speed will be implemented into our popular Windows-based uTorrent Classic client to create a healthier ecosystem and foundation where content creators can distribute their work directly across the web.”
He went on saying that they will be working with CoinPayments and other partners to increase BTT liquidity in the future.
BitTorrent was created in 2004 and it has around 100 million users in its p2p network. In his way, this platform is one of the largest decentralized networks in the world. The integration between Tron and BitTorrent is known as project Atlas and it will take several months and years to be finished.
At press time, Tron is the 8th largest digital currency in the market. It has a market capitalization of $1.72 billion and each coin can be purchased for $0.0257. The BitTorrent token can be purchased for $0.000938, according to CoinMarketCap.
