Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson is now officially the Democratic Senate nominee in Maine, and prediction markets are treating that as a stabilizing move rather than another round of chaos.
While Graham Platner’s exit from the race following a scandal could have reset prediction markets, traders have maintained a strong lead for Democrats to take the Maine Senate seat in November.
Incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins has been the state’s defining political survivor for decades, but Democrats still see her seat as one of the cleanest pickup chances on the Senate map in the 2026 midterm elections.

It gives Democrats a candidate with enough name recognition to keep the race credible.
He was already the de facto nominee by the time the convention met, and the latest polling had him narrowly ahead of Collins at 49% to 46%. That lead is about as good as Democrats could hope for in a state where Collins has spent years surviving by winning independents, the support that has made her difficult to dislodge.
The reason Collins remains hard to beat is the same reason Democrats keep trying. She has held the seat since 1997 and built a brand that often runs ahead of her party label, especially with independents who are comfortable splitting the ticket. But the new polling suggests the old Collins coalition is not automatic anymore, and that’s why Maine continues to look like a genuine pickup opportunity rather than a long-shot wish.
Prediction markets stay with DemocratsThe prediction markets are even more confident than the polls.
Kalshi has Jackson at 62% on $6.1 million in volume, while Polymarket has him at 67% on about $1 million, which is a pretty strong signal that traders think Democrats still hold the better hand in the general election. After all the turbulence around Platner’s exit, the market has basically settled back into the same place: Maine is still one of the Democrats’ best paths to Senate control.
That stability matters because the race is not just about one seat. If Democrats want to flip the Senate, Collins is one of the incumbents they almost certainly have to beat, and Maine remains one of the most plausible places to do it. Traders aren’t pricing Jackson as quite a lock, but it is enough to keep traders focused on the Democratic side of the map.
Collins still has a laneNone of that means Collins is suddenly finished. Her whole career has been built on convincing enough independents that she is a reasonable fit for Maine even when the national GOP brand is weak, and that remains her best argument.
The poll’s split shows that she still has a real path if she can keep consolidating Republicans and hold enough of the middle.
Still, Platner’s scandal and the quick replacement process didn’t blow up Maine’s Democratic chances. It just forced the party to move from one viable challenger to another. And because Jackson now looks stable, prediction markets are back to doing what they were doing before the Platner chaos, pricing Maine as a real Democratic pickup shot in the battle to control the Senate.
