Circle announced in a blog post recently that it has added EOS markets to its cryptocurrency exchange Poloniex. EOS, developed by Block.one, will be available for trading in various pairs on August 1. Deposits and withdrawals have already gone live on the market.

Many members of the crypto community didn’t seem thrilled by the announcement. On both Twitter and Reddit, users complained about Poloniex’s sluggish account-opening process and its loss of relevance in the past year. One Reddit user had this to say:
“It took them 9 months to open my account and another 6 months to answer my query about why is it taking them 9 months to open my account.”
However, other Reddit users seemed unphased by criticism and suggested that EOS will be going to the moon, suggesting that the token will reach a $50 valuation soon.
A Twitter user also suggested that EOS is not a cryptocurrency but a centralized database.
EOS is a centralized database! It’s not crypto.

Circle Moves One Step at a TimeCircle suggests that the addition of the token is part of the Circle Asset Framework. It has designed the tool to help prioritize the listing of new assets on the platform taking into account the following: fundamentals, people, business model, technology and market dynamics.
The company acquired Poloniex five months ago and claims to focus on “improving the core product experience and stabilizing the performance of the exchange.” Circle added:
“We improved deposit and withdrawal reliability, updated our customer onboarding process and cleared over 175,000 legacy support tickets. We are now also investing in new ways to grow Poloniex into a premier destination for crypto asset trading — the addition of EOS is just the first step.”
As of now, the platform will only support EOS mainnet tokens, and not the ERC-20 variant. Poloniex will not provide conversions of ERC-20 to mainnet tokens and EOS airdrops will not be supported.
