A Trojan Helps Hackers Make MillionsWeifang City’s Public Security Bureau received a report from Tencent Keeper Program security team related to a game plug-in containing a trojan horse program in January 2018. The malicious program was used for illegal crypto mining.
Police investigators reacted quickly and found that the developers of this program could be in Qingzhou. They informed the Qingzhou Municipal Public Security Bureau, who created a task force to investigate the case further.
The task force found that a few forums were being used to exchange the game plug-in. The activity was led by Yang Mobao (or Moubao), who was arrested and subsequently confessed his crime. However, he was not the only culprit in this case. Later investigations revealed the name of Dalian Yuping Network Technology Co. Ltd., which was leading this act behind the scenes.
The police advised users to avoid visiting illegal websites and clicking on links. They have also advised using antivirus software to reduce the chances of illegal mining through their computers.
