Opera to Launch First Browser with Native Crypto Wallet

Opera has announced the launch of its new browser software with crypto wallet. The latest version of the Opera browser for Android that at the moment is available in a private beta version can offer its users easy-to-use crypto wallet functionality and support for Ethereum decentralized apps.

It means that now interaction with Web 3.0 will be possible via fully-featured Opera mobile browser. Thanks to the newly introduced features, Opera has become the first major browser with a built-in crypto wallet.

Thanks to the introduction of the latest version of the browser, Opera’s 322 million user base will get a chance not to install any separate extensions with a view to send, receive and pay in cryptocurrency on their mobile Android devices. All these functions will be available for them on their Opera browsers.

This announcement is also very useful for developers of dapps as the new browser functionality facilitates users interactions with dapps that are built on the Ethereum network.

The product lead on Opera Crypto Charles Hamel commented their innovation the following way:”We believe the web of today will be the interface to the decentralized web of tomorrow…By becoming the first major browser to open up to Web 3.0, we would like to contribute to making the internet of the future more accessible.”

The term “Web 3.0” is used to describe the vision of a decentralized Internet that is built on top of the ethereum blockchain thanks to which users have an access to different dapps and peer-to-peer networks.

“Having a Crypto Wallet in the browser brings the cash experience to the world of online payments,” continued Charles Hamel. “Paying with the Crypto Wallet is like sending digital cash straight from your phone, and we’ve just made it easier. This opens up new possibilities for merchants and content creators alike.”

Currently, the beta version of the browser supports ETH, ERC-20 tokens and ERC-721 collectibles (they are presented to users automatically). Nevertheless, the company has plans to add support for additional cryptocurrencies in the future. But now it is important to test how these features will work and how users will react.

The developers managed to ensure not only the seamless integration into the browser but also simple usage of all the new functions and a high level of security. Though common wallets enforce users to create PIN codes or passwords, for signing transactions Opera relies on Android’s secure system lock, as a result there isn’t any necessity to create any new codes to use the wallet.

It is also very important to highlight that Opera’s wallet is a user-controlled one. It means that all the keys that are needed to control the user’s assets and funds are kept only on the user’s mobile phone.

The company is launching the new private beta version of Opera browser just today, on July 11 and it is inviting users and developers to test it and to send their feedbacks which will help to make the new browser better.
