The parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), has made a bold move into the world of crypto-powered prediction markets by investing $2 billion in Polymarket.

The investment marks a significant step by one of the world’s most influential financial institutions into an industry long viewed as experimental but increasingly mainstream.

ICE’s investment values Polymarket between $8 billion and $9 billion, depending on different reports from Bloomberg, CNBC, and the company’s own announcement.

In a joint statement, both companies described the partnership as a fusion of institutional credibility with technological innovation.

ICE Chief Executive Jeffrey Sprecher said the collaboration opens new opportunities across markets that only ICE and Polymarket can uniquely serve.

Polymarket founder and CEO Shayne Coplan added that combining ICE’s institutional scale with Polymarket’s consumer reach will help create “world-class products for the modern investor.”

Following the investment, Polymarket in a post on X on October 7, 2025, said ICE was making a $2 billion strategic investment at a $9 billion post-money valuation.

“Together, we’re building the next evolution of markets,” the company wrote, calling the deal “just the beginning.”

ICE shares rose more than 3% in premarket trading following the news, reflecting investor confidence in the company’s expansion into digital markets.

Polymarket’s rise has not been without controversy.

The crypto prediction platform, which allows users to trade on real-world outcomes such as elections, sports results, and market events, has faced scrutiny from US regulators in the past.

In early 2022, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) issued a cease-and-desist order against the company for operating unregistered markets.

The following years brought further challenges, including a 2024 FBI raid on CEO Shayne Coplan’s home.

However, the company’s fortunes began to shift in 2025. Earlier this year, Polymarket received regulatory relief from the CFTC, allowing it to operate under limited no-action conditions.

The company also acquired QCEX, a US-licensed derivatives exchange and clearinghouse, for $112 million to pave the way for its domestic relaunch.

These moves positioned Polymarket to re-enter the US market with stronger compliance and institutional backing.

Polymarket has also attracted politically aligned investors.

In August, the company added Donald Trump Jr. to its advisory board after receiving a strategic investment from 1789 Capital, a firm with conservative ties.

Although the amount was undisclosed, reports suggest the investment reached the double-digit millions.

The addition of Trump Jr. to its board has drawn attention to Polymarket’s growing influence at the intersection of politics, markets, and technology.

With ICE now joining as a major institutional partner, the prediction platform stands to gain not only credibility but also access to infrastructure and expertise unmatched in the crypto space.
