Comma.ai’s George Hotz Says Ethereum Does not Have Scaling Issues as Bitcoin

At the San Francisco Blockchain Week, George Hotz, founder and Head of research at Comma.ai talked about Ethereum, decentralized applications and the scaling solutions being developed Lightning Network.

He said that he has been studying Ethereum’s Geth in full and that he believes that the platform was perfect for bug bounties. Moreover, he explained that the contract by itself was a bounty and that users would not have to be developers.

At the same time, he talked about Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) on Ethereum and how the network was not able to handle the increased load of new projects building on top of the platform. At the event, he was also asked about Ethereum could overcome the scalability issues that it faced during the last year.

Hotz said that Ethereum is a platform that is scalable and that does not have scalability problems as Bitcoin does. For him, Bitcoin is the only network with scaling issues. However, he explained that Ethereum could have scalability problems if it is used to run Crypto Kitties, but ‘nobody uses dApps for anything.’

Additionally, he mentioned that he had to pay $17 dollars to process a Bitcoin transaction. On the matter, he said that Lightning Network could be a solution for these issues.

“I just know that at one point in my life I paid $17 for a Bitcoin transaction and that does kind of stick with you I don’t know lightning looks complicated and like it doesn’t work or I would agree maybe it works.”

Hotz is a recognized hacker that was able to unlock the iPhone and allow the phone to be used with other carriers rather than just with AT&T. George Hotz is currently working on its company that focuses on vehicle automation machine learning.

Bitcoin faced different scalability issues during the last years and this is something that developers are currently trying to solve. At the moment, there is no official release date for the Lightning Network, but once it will be working, the benefits of it would be noticeable by the network and the community.
