NEO has officially revealed a new distirbuted file storage system during a meetup in St Petersburg on November 30. According to an official blog post uploaded by NEO, the new fiel storage system was revealed along the NEO St petersburg COmpetence Center (NSPCC).

The NSPCC is a research and development company that aims at supporting NEO’s growth and its ecosystem. It has also received support from the Russian Association of Cryptoindustry and Blockchain (RACIB). In order to start the NSPCC, the co-founder of City of Zion and the Neon Exchange, Fabian Wahle. Other individuals behind the launching of the NSPCC are Sergei Liubich and Anatoly Bogatyrev.

The NSPCC is working in a distributed file storage system that will work as a cornerstone element of the NEO platform. In order to build it, the team acquired several talents from companies such as Dell, Samsung, WhatsApp or Yandex.

The system will allow users to use a distributed storage for decentralized applications (dApps) in a public and private capacity.

The announcement reads as follows:

“As a platform, the system aims to allow users to utilize distributed storage for dApps in both public and private capacity. The architecture will maintain properties such as anonymity and security, independent from the data itself, and allow compatibility with popular infrastructure such as Amazon S3 or Dropbox.”

In this way, it would be possible to attract enterprise level applications. It will also be featuring a unique method of data audit that is based on homomorphic hashing. That means that there will be a minimum load on the network and computing power for verifying and verified parties.

Moreover, interested participants will have to purchase storage using the CGAS NEP-5 token. However, there are some possibilities of including other fiat payments in the future.

NEO will also be integrated the distributed file protocol into its system. In this way, it will be called NeoFS.

Additionally, the NSPCC will also be acting as an incubator for Russian blockchain projects with the intention to help the NEO ecosystem grow. Some of the main activities of the NSPCC will be to collaborate with several university centers in St Petersburg. Some of these educational institutions are the Saint Petersburg State University of Economics Department of Programming Technology and the ITMO University Department of Computer Science.

With the NeoFS it will be possible for users to have control over their privacy.

The promotional video that NEO created says:

“Often enough the server [that stores your data] is owned by a big company, and that company becomes an owner of your files… They can take a peek at what you share to sell you something or to tell you something. So, why not take back control with NeoFS?”

People started working on the platform during the last quarter of 2018. At the same time, the core of the platform will be developed during the first quarter of 2019.
