Iceland's financial regulator awarded blockchain startup Monerium an electronic money institution license, allowing the company to put e-money on the blockchain, removing the need for intermediaries like PayPal and Google Pay.

As of now, the European Union-friendly license means Monerium and its users will be able to freely trade across the European Economic Area.
