There appears to be a growing craze for NFTs amongst music bands. Metal band heavyweights, Megadeth, Avenged Sevenfold, and Slipknot’s Clown are amongst the notable active names of the heavy metal industry that have dipped their toes in the NFT market.

There’s no slowing down on the NFT frenzy. The craze has gradually spread beyond the crypto space, garnering more utility in the process. For many creatives, an NFT presents a modern way to monetize their content. For some fans, they help them connect with their favorites.

American heavy metal band, Megadeth has joined the growing list of entertainers to create their own NFT. The band which was formed in 1983 minted the “Megadeth Genesis token”. It auctioned the one-of-one NFT on Rarible. The auction started off on April 7 and ended on April 12, 2021. The winning bid was 8.4 WETH, about $18,703.

Megadeth is one of the bands that pioneered the thrash metal movement, which originated in California. They are contemporaries of the American music giant Metallica. In fact, Dave Mustaine, the founder, and frontman of Megadeth, even had a two-year stint as the lead guitarist and singer for Metallica. He then went on to find success with his own metal band, Megadeth.

Avenged Sevenfold in the NFT space

Another heavy metal band, Avenged Sevenfold, announced the purchase of Land on RPG game, The SandBox Game.

We are excited to announce we have officially purchased LAND with @TheSandboxGame and are excited to start building a virtual space. The metaverse has become increasingly interesting to us and The Sandbox is the perfect merging of gaming, technology, and creativity. More soon! pic.twitter.com/gSaF879OT1

There’s a lot of rush for virtual real estate assets. It is therefore not surprising that some of the biggest purchases fall under this category. A few days ago, a glasshouse called ‘Mars house’ was bought for $500,000 on SuperRare.

High-profile names are also betting big on properties in the metaverse. It was reported that the Winklevoss twins own land on The Sandbox Game. Notable institutional investors have also thrown their weight behind.

In September last year, Binance purchased over 4000 LAND NFTs on The Sandbox. Atari, Care Bears, and The Smurfs are other big institutional investors.

Slipknot’s Clown rounds up the list of the latest NFT adopters of the heavy metal industry.
