Craig Wright, well-known in the cryptoverse for claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin, is suing a popular Twitter user, Hodlonaut, for defamatory posts on the internet.
As reported by Coingeek, Wright’s lawyers served Hodlonaut with legal papers on 29 March 2019, claiming that Wright had enough evidence to prove a “targeted campaign” to harass and libel Wright. The account, which started the hashtag #CraigWrightIsAFraud, has since been deleted for calling Wright “a very sad and pathetic scammer” and “mentally ill.”
Wright’s attorney clarified that he was, in fact, the creator of Bitcoin, stating,
“[Craig Wright] has not fraudulently claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. He is Satoshi Nakamoto. He produced the report Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System in October 2008, sent the first Bitcoin to Hal Finney in January 2009 and played an integral part in the development of Bitcoin. He has explained his role in detail on previous occasions.”
Additionally, Coingeek also mentioned that Wright is demanding that Hodlonaut “tweets an apology” and “make a statement in open court apologizing to Wright and acknowledge the falsity of the allegations.”
The account ‘Hodlonaut’ claims to be from Norway and the person who identifies to be the owner of the account will allegedly be rewarded $5,000 in Bitcoin SV [BSV].
The crypto community has come together after a lot of people claimed to be hodlonaut, like Frances Pouliot and Udi Wertheimer, who even changed their Twitter usernames to Hodlonaut.
Peter McCormack claimed that he was the person behind the Hodlonaut account too.
I can confirm I am behind the account @hodlonaut, what next @CalvinAyre?
Do we get to go to court? This is so exciting.

@Skive_BTC, a Twitter user, commented,
“#CraigWrightIsAFraud came about via community consensus.
Calvin Ayers threats against #Hodlonaut on the other hand use his own personal website and by offering a financial reward is considered targeted harrasment.”
Another Twitter user, @CandleHater commented,
“hodlonaut was one of the first to follow my previous (now suspended) account and this one. He’s kinda my first internet friend.
Today I got followed by around ten hodlonauts and became one myself. I love the internet, you’re the best!”
