Free Crypto Transaction Processing Coming To Select Merchants, Thanks To Aliant Payments

Aliant Payments is based in the United States as a merchant services provider, which also offers payment processing services to their clients. In an effort to help with the adoption of cryptocurrency and support the use case in retail transactions, they will now offer free crypto transaction processing. However, this opportunity will only be available to certain merchants.

CryptoBucks, the crypto processing product offered by Aliant, originally came to the retail market in 2017. Now, the new free crypto processing service will be offered “to qualifying merchants that sign up for debit and credit card processing.” All qualifying merchants have to be based in the United States of Europe. To ensure that transactions following the laws, regulations, and KYC/AML protocols, Aliant opted to partner with a domestic bank that is publicly traded.

Eric Brown, the CEO of Aliant, made a statement in the press release, saying,

“After experiencing such a simple, low-cost, and no-risk payment option, we’re confident [merchants] won’t look back.” Ultimately, Brown expressed that the company aims to “make cryptocurrency every merchant’s favorite form of payment.”

Though there are many payment processors looking to integrate crypto retail purchases, bigger names are getting involved too, like Western Union. The president of the company had suggested that Western Union Global Money Transfer would more aggressively consider supporting cryptocurrency on their platform after mass adoption happens. Western Union is also concerned with key issues that plague the crypto industry, like volatility, governance, and compliance.

Bitfury, a blockchain tech firm, has taken a different approach, launching software for merchants that support e-commerce, along with an open source Bitcoin wallet and a hardware payment terminal. Their efforts, instead of being for the good of the industry, are meant to help with broader adoption of the Lightning Network.
