Famous TikTok user ‘Doggface’ is selling his NFT for $500,000—but there’s a catch

TikTok user Nathan Apodaca, popularly known as ‘Doggface208’ on the platform, is selling the viral video that made him popular as a non-fungible token (NFT), entertainment outlet TMZ reported today.

TikTok sensation Nathan 'Doggface208' Apodaca is selling his viral longboarding video as an NFT.

The starting bid is $500k.

NFTs are cryptographically-represented tangible or non-tangible items on the blockchain that represent the true ownership of whichever item they represent. The sector has seen phenomenal growth in the past few years—growing from under $200 million in 2019 to over $18 billion today.

They have, unsurprisingly, attracting a fan following from digital creators and artists…and even people looking to jump on the trend and make a quick buck.

The $500,000 TikTok video

Apodaca posted a video of himself longboarding on a highway last year to the track of Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams” while casually drinking a jug of cranberry juice. The video was soon circulated around social media, making Apodaca somewhat of an overnight internet celebrity.

The fame brought with itself sponsorship and merch deals for Apodaca, who went from being a construction worker to being able to afford a truck for himself. His videos were later (and still are) watched by millions of ‘fans’ from around the world.

And now, that longboarding video can be all yours to own. Apodaca has partnered with NFT marketplace Rarible to list and sell the NFT of his viral video on the platform. The sale starts this Friday and the bidding begins at the princely price tag of $500,000.

Not all bright in NFT land

However, there’s a slight catch. While Apodaca is selling his own video, the soundtrack won’t be included. Furthermore, the use of “Ocean Spray,” the company whose juice jug Apodaca was using in the video, would be digitally erased and hidden in the video.

That’s because both the song and the juice jug are properties of two entirely different brands which hold the licensing and commercial rights to their usage and hence cannot be sold via a third-party.

So what would you get? Just Apocada, his longboard, and him casually riding down the highway.

As for the cash—Apocada says he wishes to use the proceeds to buy his parents a house and build a performance center in the town of Idaho Falls…meaning the money won’t just be for a random .gif file.
