Evan Cheng has been formally selected to be the Director of Blockchain Engineering at the famous social network, Facebook. The blockchain expert has been working with ChainLink and Zilliqa. This time, it will be a lead builder as Facebook enter the distributed ledger market.
Cheng To Work On FacebookThis is one of the latest moves of Facebook that shows the company is seriously moving towards blockchain technology. Evan Cheng, that was leading the department of Programming Languages & Runtimes at the company will be the guide in this new step taken by Facebook.
Cheng has been working in the past for other projects including ChainLink and Zilliqa, two important cryptocurrency projects in the market.
It is important to mention that back in May, Facebook hired a former Messenger executive, David marcus, so as to head up the new blockchain team. At the same time, the company explained that it may be searching to create a cryptocurrency for its platform. Additionally, late in June, the company said that it would be lifting the crypto ad ban for ICOs and other sites.
Another rumour that was circulating on the internet was that Facebook might be searching to buy the cryptocurrency exchange and platform Coinbase. But until now, there are no clear comments on the matter.
It will be interesting to see how the company will be exploring new uses of blockchain technology and how it can help it grow in a more competitive landscape.
