The cryptocurrency markets are evolving in many ways different to a typical securities market. In a recent interview with IntelAlley, the newly appointed managing director of operations at Gemini Trust Company, the operators of Gemini Exchange, noted that cryptocurrency exchanges are evolving and that Gemini has an exciting year ahead of itself. She talked about the changing ecosystem of cryptocurrency exchanges as well.

Hightower-Selitto said that digital assets are still in their nascent stage, but they are maturing. She noted that there is real innovation going on in the industry behind all the noise. She called Gemini exchange an early innovator in the cryptocurrency space as it launched in 2015 to facilitate a secure, transparent and regulated market for all investors.

She also talked about the new products that were recently added to Gemini exchange, including the first digital asset insurance in the world that further strengthens the exchange’s security ideals.

She added that the exchange is evolving with time and said:

“I don’t feel that there will be a point where we will be satisfied with what we’ve accomplished, as there is always so much more to do when you’re on the ground floor, building a safe and secure infrastructure for the future of money. We will continue to celebrate the victories along the way.”

The victories Hightower-Selitto talks about include the first Bitcoin futures in the US, launched in partnership with CBOE and the world’s first regulated and licensed stablecoin, the Gemini Dollar (GUSD).

When asked about the exchanges plans for the upcoming year, Hightower-Selitto said that the exchange only announces the developments that they are ready to deploy and that they are looking forward to “an exciting year ahead of us.”

Gemini is in favor of thoughtful regulations in the market. New market participants will be attracted to the industry when there are clear regulatory guidelines. She noted further:

“Having worked for an SEC-regulated exchange operator for nearly all of my career, I can appreciate where we are as an industry today, and the transformation the crypto exchanges will be going through as our industry continued to develop.”

The former COO of NASDAQ subsidiary International Securities Exchange (ISE) will lead client services and drive institutional investment at the exchange. She will report directly to Gemini President Cameron Winklevoss.
