GOG Galaxy 2.0 beats all the other PC platforms by joining them (literally)

GOG, that other gaming platform, created a new launcher specifically to help everyone get all their games in one place. I finally tried it, and it’s a surprisingly gratifying experience. The Store Wars of 2019 continue to bubble beneath the crust of the gaming industry — forever brewing into the next big shitstorm should someone dare to declare platform exclusivity.

Op Ed: With Bitcoin, Anarchy Is the Point, Not the Problem

Last week, there was a panel at SXSW that was effectively a debate on the merits of permissioned blockchains versus permissionless systems like Bitcoin. I listened to the entire audio of the panel discussion, after Programming Bitcoin author Jimmy Song tweeted it out the other day, and I thought he did an awesome job of pointing out the key value proposition of Bitcoin and why it is not worth comparing to permissioned systems.

Op Ed: Defining Decentralization: How Ambiguity Continues to Divide Crypto

There are many keywords in blockchain, but few spark as much emotion as “decentralization. ” For many of us, it was the dream of decentralization that inspired us to embark into the industry in the first place — the driving force encouraging us to explore the many industries and practice areas that could be positively impacted by this technology.

Living on Bitcoin for a Week in San Francisco

When I decided, maybe against my better judgement, to live on bitcoin for a week, the plan was met by a combination of cautions and jokes from friends and loved ones: “Just don’t starve,” “Well, it’s the New Year, a perfect time to start a new diet,” “Will you be able to eat?”, “Have you really thought about it?”I had “really” thought about it and it seemed not only sensible but necessary.

Why you should care about CERN’s new and BIGGER particle collider

After four years of research, a new conceptual design report for CERN’s 100 km-long Future Circular Collider (FCC) has been released — marking a major milestone for science. Even though it’s only a proposal at the moment, scientists are extremely excited about the prospect of new particle collider that’s roughly four times the length of the previous Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

A CBC Casper Tutorial

In order to help more people understand “the other Casper” (Vlad Zamfir’s CBC Casper), and specifically the instantiation that works best for blockchain protocols, I thought that I would write an explainer on it myself, from a less abstract and more “close to concrete usage” point of view.

Ethereum (ETH) Founder Claims He is Not a Billionaire–Should We Care?

Ethereum (ETH)–On October 11, the crypto space erupted in a relative civil war over a series of tweets by Ethereum founder and regulator cryptocurrency figurehead Vitalik Buterin. Buterin, in response to accusations over the amount of Ether he held personally which would propel him to billionaire status, vehemently defended his position as one of the […] The post Ethereum (ETH) Founder Claims He is Not a Billionaire–Should We Care? appeared first on Ethereum World News.

Notes on Blockchain Governance

In which I argue that “tightly coupled” on-chain voting is overrated, the status quo of “informal governance” as practiced by Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum, Zcash and similar systems is much less bad than commonly thought, that people who think that the purpose of blockchains is to completely expunge soft mushy human intuitions and feelings in favor of completely algorithmic governance (emphasis on “completely”) are absolutely crazy, and loosely coupled voting as done by Carbonvotes and similar systems is underrated, as well as describe what framework should be used when thinking about blockchain governance in the first place.
