Boeing Airplane Maker and SparkCognition Create ‘SkyGrid’ Blockchain Solution for Unmanned Flights

Boeing, the most prominent aircraft manufacturer in the world, has announced a partnership with SparkCognition to develop AI and blockchain-based solutions.

Earlier this week, Boeing partnered with SparkCognition to launch a new entity called SkyGrid. The company will develop a software platform based on a combination of multiple technologies, including AI, data analytics, distributed ledgers, and cyber security applications. This solution will be used to drive unmanned airplanes used for various purposes, including rescue services, delivery of goods and many more.

Boeing has been working on the development of autonomous aircrafts for a considerable period. Indeed, the company recently created Boeing NeXt for this specific purpose. Speaking on SkyGrid, Steve Nordlund, the head of Boeing NeXt, said that the collaboration between his company and SparkCognition is the only one of its kind in the entire aerospace industry. Steve added that SkyGrid will develop a solution that will significantly improve air transport across the world.

On the other hand, Amit Husain, the CEO and founder of SparkCognition, said that SkyGrid will combine AI, blockchain and their knowledge of the air transport sector to develop a revolutionary solution that will transform the aviation industry. Husain further stated that SkyGrid is built to scale efficiently with an increasing number of users. This means that it can comfortably handle large-scale airspace applications. Amir Husain will become the pioneering CEO of SkyGrid.

In addition to blockchain technology, SkyGrid will also leverage machine learning techniques and the Internet of Things. These are pivotal in the interpretation of Big Data which can be used to improve the productivity of both humans and machines.

The two companies started the development of a blockchain-driven solution for tracking unmanned aircrafts (drones) in July. Precisely, Boing provides its expertise in developing airplanes, while SparkCognition was charged with creating the AI infrastructure.
