The debut of EOS Global Hackathon organized by Block.one, the brain behind the EOS blockchain protocol, came to an end yesterday. The Hackathon took place in Australia at ICC Sidney, and Australian teams clinched the top three prizes and carted away more than US$120,000 in prizes.

The deciding panel for the Hackathon comprised of leaders in global technology and blockchain. The winners were chosen from among a total of 200 international participants representing over 50 teams who partook in 26 consecutive hours of programming.

Bagging the first prize was an Australian team of two called SmartPress. They won US$100,000 for their project, a web application built on EOSIO. The aim of the SmartPress app is to democratize blockchain technology by making it possible for Australians (even those who have little or no technical experience) to design and also use smart contracts with current or newly developed applications.

The second prize went to Australian team GreenKeep. Greenkeep is a blockchain application whose aim is to prevent wastage in the local and global sphere through supply chain management.

In the third position was TokenTree. This Australian team won the third prize for its millennial-targeted gamified app. The game empowers millennials to get more involved in deforestation stoppage in Australia by nurturing, as well as tracking, the lifecycle of trees.

The EOS VC unit of Block.one took the time at the Hackathon to announce its US$1 million “Hack. Pitch. Launch.” seed funding program. The initiative seeks to give a shot to participating teams in EOS Global Hackathon events to receive an investment funding of US$50,000. Five teams will be selected for the funding from each of the four hackathon events.
