Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company, has confirmed its interest in blockchain technology. The company’s executives confirmed this in an earnings call on Tuesday.

Leading tech companies are venturing towards the blockchain and the cryptocurrency sector. Besides Google, the other companies investing in crypto and blockchain are Facebook, Microsoft and Apple.

Alphabet shows interest in blockchain

The CEO of Alphabet, Sundar Pichai, noted several “areas of interest” in the popular Web3 sector. In response to one of the questions posed by analysts, Pichai noted that Alphabet was looking towards augmented reality and how it can support the computing and services layers for various Google platforms, including YouTube and Google Maps.

Pichai stated that Alphabet was “definitely looking at blockchain” and added that blockchain was “an interesting and powerful technology with broad applications.”

One of the areas where Alphabet will be integrating blockchain is in its cloud team. Alphabet’s cloud division competes with the likes of Amazon Web Services and Microsoft. The company is also looking towards boosting its customer relationship through blockchain. The technology would be employed to organize customer requests and other related services.

The executive further added,

Anytime there’s innovation, I find it exciting, and I think it is something we want to support the best we can. The web has always evolved, and it’s going to continue to evolve, and as Google, we have benefited tremendously from open-source technologies, so we do plan to contribute there.

Rush towards blockchain innovations

Blockchain technology has gained notable adoption over the years, mainly attributed to the rapid growth of the sector. Some of the most notable advancements in the sector include WSeb3 and the metaverse.

The Web3 sector has attracted attention, as it is believed to offer better control to users. Some projects in the blockchain sector, such as Filecoin (FIL/USD), have already started venturing into Web3, despite this innovation failing to garner support from Elon Musk and Jack Dorsey.

Towards the end of 2021, Facebook rebranded into Meta as part of its initiative to enter the digital world and meet the needs of digital-savvy customers.
