After Rumors Of Haven Protocol Being An Exit Scam, Developer Finally Responds

The Haven Protocol makes it possible for consumers to hold their cryptocurrency in an off-short account. Based on the CryptoNote protocol, it uses Monero tokens, hiding details of transactions from everyone except the user that created the transaction in the first place. Though it has been in production for a while, a lack of activity has brought about some rumors that are leaving participants nervous over their investments. In a since-deleted tweet, Twitter user @cryptoblkbeard decided to accuse Haven Protocol of being an exit scam.

Clearly, the suggestion of a scam caused an uproar in the crypto community, considering the significant risk it would pose to investors that have already gotten involved. In the thread, there is a screenshot of a Discord chat involving @news.cutler, who spoke on his worry about the lack of activity from the core developer, who holds the @havendev Twitter handle.

The Discord post said, “Consider this project dead unless some devs take it over. @havendev is apparently the only person with access to the code repository was asked weeks ago to open it up so other contributors could help out and review the code. Ever since then we haven’t heard from him.”

News.cutler continued, saying that there was no reply from the core developer after he received a request to make the dev fee transparent. Even after news.cutler threatened to leave without the developer showing up, there was no response.

It looked like the community tried to help itself in this situation, as Discord user @donjor agreed with news.cutler’s decision, proposing that they prioritize the Haven community with forking the repository. Donjor expressed that he would try to access the code by communicating with the core developer to check in.

After all of this disruption was posted throughout Twitter and Discord, the core developer finally decided to respond, dispelling rumors of an exit scam.

He replied,

“Haven development has been ongoing. I have still been working on the offshore code through Christmas and new year. I stepped down from running the Discord and social networks 4-6 months ago and handed that control over to @donjor and @news.cutler. In light of the insane amount of FUD, and although I want to keep the offshore code under wraps I will prepare it and hand it all to the team so that they can hire new devs to work o nn it. I will continue to help the team where I can.”

Even though the response is elaborate and explanatory, it has not elicited a positive reaction. One user on Twitter replied, “Unacceptable behavior. Silence for all that time, then finally responds 1 hour after you post publicly about it. Disrespectful. Rude,” following the publication of the Discord thread.

Another Twitter user probably said it best, leaving the rest of the work to be seen, saying, “Just wait and believe.” There have been no other updates yet, but there could be more to come.
