12 Days of Coinbase Begins; Crypto Balances Can Now Be Spent on E-gift Cards

Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase has started the 12 Days of Coinbase program where it will make a new announcement on each day. On the first day, the exchange announced that users in the US can now convert their digital currencies into e-gift cards that can be spent with Uber, Nike, and other top brands.

What To Expect From 12 Days of Coinbase

In a blog post, Coinbase noted that their customers have often wanted to do more with digital currency and they have been working behind-the-scenes throughout 2018 to help make that possible. As a result of this effort, they will present 12 major updates for their customers, starting December 10. The exchange will make one big announcement every day till December 21, Coinbase wrote:

“These are our holiday season thank you to the community as we head into a big 2019.”

December could be the most eventful month of the year for Coinbase as 11 announcements are yet to come. Coinbase recently suggested that it is looking to add up to 30 new cryptocurrencies to the exchange. It is expected that some will be listed during the 12 days of Coinbase, with many hoping that XRP and Stellar (XLM) will be among them.

Using Crypto To Purchase Goods

Coinbase’s e-gift card which was already available to users from the EU and UK will now expand to the US. This will enable US users to buy many goods and services from leading brands using crypto. The announcement was timed perfectly as many Coinbase will now be doing their Christmas shopping.

Coinbase notes:

“Starting today, e-gift cards are available through our program with WeGift (previously in the UK and EU only) and can be purchased at dozens of great vendors, including Uber, Nike, and many more.”

Users can visit the WeGift site, link their Coinbase wallet and spend their crypto on e-gift cards. Customers using the feature don’t pay any withdrawal fees and may get an up to 10% bonus with select vendors, helping to make the adoption of crypto into daily life an even smoother experience.
