The former chief strategist to President Donald Trump and one time head of alt-right publication Breitbart is thinking of rallying up the basket of deplorables into buying some “deplorables coin” for his next project.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Steve Bannon opened up about his affinity for taking down the status-quo and the harbinger of this movement could be the use of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies to create true freedom.
While not exactly a seasoned blockchain veteran, this is not the first time Bannon has spoke about cryptocurrencies taking down the establishment. In March, Bannon spoke at an event in Zurich, Switzerland, and alluded to the idea of cryptocurrencies being used to remove the shackles that central banks have on the citizens of the world.
He alleged the banks of creating “slaves to debt” and major financial institutions around the world of ensuring that workers remain “wage slaves,” stuck in a vicious cycle.
Bannon has been long noted to be fascinated with disruptive and even apocalyptic theories. He subscribes to the belief that every century or so, a snowball effect of catastrophic events will throw governments into disarray, destroying the old guard and ushering in a new world order.
As a financial insider and political influencer, Bannon says he has first hand knowledge and experience that tell him that money is power. “It was pretty obvious to me that unless you got somehow control over your currency, all these political movements were going to be beholden to who controlled the currency,” Bannon told the New York Times.
Alt-right groups often find their websites shut down, and companies that handle transactions like Visa, Mastercard, or PayPal have clamped down on alt-right groups using their services to fund their organizations.
PayPal has acknowledged its mission to remove such groups from using their services and GoDaddy has recently ended their relationship with the Trump supporting alt-right and white supremacist leader, Richard Spencer, removing his sites from their servers. This plays into the hands of Bannon and supports his theory that the freedoms of citizens are under siege.
As Bannon wades into the the ICO pool, many are suspicious of his motives. Doubters are noting that Bannon’s previous dubious projects and the wave of non-trustworthy ICOs and the typical scams of the crypto field create a perfect storm for fraud.
